Breathing Is My Life – The Story Behind Gruber CO₂ Systems

My name is Roman Gruber, and breathing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From practicing martial arts as a child to my training as a breath therapist and finally to a surgery that changed everything—my experiences have led me to a firm conviction: Breathing is one of the most important—and at the same time most underestimated—foundations of our health. Gruber CO₂ Systems was born out of this conviction.

From Martial Arts to Breathing Therapy

I started practicing martial arts as a child. Even back then, I learned how crucial proper breathing can be for concentration, performance, endurance, and mental strength. This early understanding stayed with me: I delved deeper into the subject and completed training as a Peakwolf-certified breath therapist. At the same time, I’ve been deeply engaged with health, micronutrients, gut health, and metabolic processes for over 20 years. In my daily work, I’ve repeatedly come to realize just how closely the various systems of our body are interconnected. Nevertheless, I always felt that one area was being overlooked: breathing. Many people focus intensely on nutrition, dietary supplements, or exercise—yet they often forget something they do about 20,000 times a day: breathing. This conviction had been with me for a long time before a life-changing experience finally confirmed it.

The Turning Point: An Operation That Changed Everything

A major turning point came a few years ago when I had to undergo surgery on my cervical spine. Thanks to my many years of experience working with CO₂ dry baths, I already knew that carbon dioxide can have a positive effect on blood circulation and recovery—which is why I specifically sought out ways to use CO₂ through breathing as well. My research led me, through contacts in professional sports, to Anders Olsson in Sweden and to the Cardihaler. Together with my treating physician, I decided to begin CO₂ breathing training immediately after the surgery. The experience left a lasting impression on me: My recovery was significantly faster than expected, and both doctors and nursing staff repeatedly emphasized that they had rarely seen such progress following a comparable procedure. Even though I cannot attribute this solely to CO₂ breathing training, I became aware of the potential of breathing during that time—and from this conviction, Gruber CO₂ Systems was born, with the goal of providing athletes, athletes, therapists, and doctors with easy access to scientifically sound CO₂ and breathing applications.
